Application integration

Finalist studies your businesses application architecture from an IT point of view

Application integration, also known as Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), is basically a generic term for technology that is used to allow multiple software systems to communicate with each other. This can be within one single organisation or among several organisations. Software systems are used to support or completely automate business processes and by linking systems you are also linking business processes, and supporting business processes from multiple systems.

In the field of application integration there are two very important terms: ESB and BPM: Enterprise Service Bus and Business Process Management. The first is a technology that enables the exchange of messages and allows you to route, transform and combine messages. This is all about organising the information. BPM is the technology that enables you to model and carry out business processes and is generally used in combination with an ESB.

There are various open source products available that enable application integration. Well-known open source ESBs are Mule, Fuse (Apache Service Mix), Sopera and JBoss ESB. Well-known open source BPM products are jBPM (and BPM designer) by JBoss and Orchestra.

Finalist can provide application integration for all these open source products. We also advise how to implement the products, we carry out product comparisons, and we supply customised application integrations.
